Privacy policy
What we collect when you ask us to build your website, why, who we share it with and your rights. Last updated 30 October 2026.
Who we are
The Free Website Shop is run by Prooflive.ai, trading as Prooflive, of 7 Ferry Road, Preston PR2 2YH, United Kingdom. For the personal data on this page we are the controller. Questions or requests: reply to any email from us, or ask in the live chat on this website.
What we collect
- Your sign-up details: your name, email, mobile, the name of your business, what you do, your town, a phone number for customers, the look and colours you like, whether you have a logo, your current website or Facebook page and anything else you tell us.
- Conversations: live chat messages, emails, texts and calls with our team and your web designer.
- Billing details when your website goes live: your name, the name of your business, billing address and phone. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see your full card number.
- Visits to this website: server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser) for security, and visitor numbers counted without advertising or tracking cookies.
Why we use it
- To build your website, contact you about it and put it live when you ask (to take steps at your request before a contract, then the contract).
- To answer your questions, keep the service secure and improve it (our legitimate interests).
- To keep tax and accounting records (legal obligation).
We don't send marketing emails without your consent, and we never sell your data.
Who we share it with
Only the providers who help us run the service, under contracts that protect your data: DigitalOcean (hosting in London), Stripe (payments), SMTP2GO (email delivery), Openprovider (registering your domain in your name) and Google Fonts (typefaces, which receives your IP address). We may also share data with professional advisers, where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
International transfers
Your data is stored in the UK. Some providers, such as Stripe and SMTP2GO, may process it outside the UK under UK adequacy decisions or approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
- Sign-up details for a website that doesn't go live: up to 12 months after we last spoke.
- Account and website data: while your website is with us, then deleted within 90 days of closing.
- Billing records: 6 years, as required for tax.
- Conversations: up to 2 years after they end.
Your website's visitors
Once your website is live, you are responsible for the personal data of the people who use it and contact you through it, and we process it for you under the Prooflive Terms of Service.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or give it to you in a portable format. We reply within one month. If you're unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Cookies
This website uses only the cookies it needs to work, such as keeping a live chat conversation open between pages. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Changes
We'll update this policy when how we handle data changes, and tell you by email if the change affects you.
