Website advice

I need a website for my business. Where do I start?

Start with what your customers need to know: what you do, where you work, roughly what it costs and how to get in touch. You don't need a logo, a big budget or any technical know-how to get a good small business website. Five pieces of information will get you most of the way.

Gather these first

  1. What you do, in your own words. One or two sentences, as you'd say it to a customer.
  2. Where you work. Your town, and the areas you cover.
  3. Your services or products, with prices or "from" prices if you can share them.
  4. How to contact you: phone, email and opening hours.
  5. A few photos of your work, your premises or your products. Phone photos are fine.

Then choose how it gets built

You can build it yourself with a website builder, pay a designer, or have it built for you for a monthly fee. Building it yourself takes time; paying a designer up front can cost hundreds or thousands of pounds before you see a page.

We do it differently: tell us about your business and our team builds your website free. You see it finished before you pay anything. If you love it, it's £19 a month hosting from the day it goes live, with no contract. Your web designer will be in touch within 24 hours (usually within a few hours, Monday to Friday).

Don't wait for perfect

A clear, simple website that's live is worth far more than a perfect one that's still in your head. You can always add pages later.
